NewDay USA to Sponsor 2012 Military Bowl, Cal Ripken, Jr. to Join Company in Honoring Wounded Veteran During Halftime Show

NewDay USA and spokesperson Ripken to present $1 million check to philanthropic partner

FULTON, Md.--()--NewDay USA, LLC, one of the nation’s leading VA, reverse and government lenders, is proud to announce that for the second consecutive year the company is a corporate sponsor of the 2012 Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman on Dec. 27. NewDay USA will host a halftime presentation, during which company executives and spokesperson, baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr., will present a $1 million check to its philanthropy partner, Renovating Hope. The ceremony will also honor wounded veteran Mark Trepanier and his family, who will receive keys to their home that was recently refurbished by Renovating Hope and NewDay USA.

Additionally, NewDay USA will sponsor the Congressional Medal of Honor luncheon in conjunction with the Military Bowl activities, a tribute to all recipients of the nation’s highest award for valor in action against an enemy force.

“The Military Bowl represents a great opportunity for NewDay USA and its employees to be a part of an event that honors and supports the men and women who serve our country,” said Rear Admiral Tom Lynch (USN – ret.), chairman of NewDay USA. “It’s a wonderful chance for us to show our support for organizations like Renovating Hope that work every day to help make a difference in the lives of wounded veterans and their families.”

NewDay USA executives who will join Ripken on the field during halftime include CEO Rob Posner, chairman Rear Admiral Tom Lynch and director Lieutenant General Benjamin Freakley. Renovating Hope founder Paul S. Hoffecker will accept the $1 million check and take part in the ceremony honoring wounded veteran Mark Trepanier.

“We are proud to work with Renovating Hope as a major philanthropic partner,” Posner said. “No cause is more important to the NewDay USA family than contributing our resources and volunteer efforts to help both past and current members of the armed services who are in need. It’s my hope that our pledge to Renovating Hope creates additional support of this organization and similar initiatives from other groups across the country.”

Trepanier, whose career in the armed services spanned more than 20 years, continues to brave the effects of traumatic brain injury and other conditions related to his service to the country. Renovating Hope, which builds and renovates homes for wounded warriors in need, and NewDay USA teamed up this fall to complete a major renovation of the Trepanier home that included comprehensive remodeling, weatherizing and replacement of electrical service and air-conditioning.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Luncheon will be held on Dec. 28 at The Heritage Center at the U. S. Navy Memorial. The event will open with a screening of the short film “In Their Own Words,” a recollection of personal experiences told by Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. Following the film, Medal of Honor recipients will share their experiences and answer questions from the audience.

Among the recipients who will be honored at the luncheon and throughout 2012 Military Bowl week activities are:

  • Harvey “Barney” Barnum, First Lieutenant (retired), USMC;
  • Rodolfo “Rudy” Hernandez, Corporal (retired) USA;
  • Kenneth Stumpf, Sergeant Major (retired), USA;
  • Brian Thacker, First Lieutenant (retired), USA; and
  • Hershel “Woody” Williams, Chief Warrant Officer 4, USMC.

NewDay USA encourages others to join in supporting organizations that honor and support the nation’s active-duty military, veterans and military families. To learn more about the groups mentioned above, visit MilitaryBowl.org, RenovatingHope.org, and CMOHFoundation.org.
