Devon Medical Products’ extriCARE™ 2400 Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) Pump, Bandages, and Canister Receive PDAC Approval from Medicare

extriCARE™, a New Portable NPWT Device Weighing Less than One Pound, Can be Reimbursed by Medicare

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.--()--Devon Medical Products, a global medical device manufacturer and distributor, today announced it has received approval from the Pricing, Data Analysis, and Coding (PDAC) contractor for its extriCARE™ 2400 Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) pump and associated bandages and disposable canister.

The PDAC approvals allow Durable Medical Equipment (DME) companies, distributors, and other parties to bill Medicare for the extriCARE™ 2400 and its approved accessories. The Medicare billing codes are as follows: extriCARE™ 2400 NPWT pump (E2402); extriCARE™ exudates collection canister (A7000); and extriCARE™ small oval, large oval, foot, heel and sacral bandages (A6550). Devon Medical Products received Food & Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance to market this extriCARE™ 2400 NPWT system in April of this year.

“We are excited to receive this approval as it will allow patients, caregivers, and wound care professionals the opportunity to experience the many healing and treatment benefits our extriCARE™ NPWT system provides,” says Dr. John A. Bennett, president of Devon Medical Products. “Our portable device and anatomically fitted bandages were developed after countless conversations with wound care experts seeking an NPWT option that increased mobility for patients and decreased application time for caregivers. We look forward to offering this option in the marketplace at a cost-effective price point so as many patients as possible can be healed with this proven form of wound care treatment.”

The extriCARE™ 2400 pump weighs less than one pound and includes a disposable canister that connects via tubing to a bandage covering a wound on the body. The bandage creates a tight seal around the wound allowing for a negative pressure environment that draws blood to the area to potentially speed healing time and also removes exudates from the wound bed into the canister, which is then discarded as waste.

The extriCARE™ 2400 system helps manage chronic, acute, traumatic, subacute and dehisced wounds, partial-thickness burns, diabetic and pressure ulcers, flaps, and grafts. The system can be utilized in acute hospital settings, wound clinics, nursing homes, and inside patients’ homes under supervision of a trained healthcare professional. Small carrying cases for the extriCARE™ 2400 pump are available so that patients can be mobile while still receiving wound treatment.
