FNBNY Bancorp, Inc Appoints New Chief Executive Officer and President

MELVILLE, N.Y.--()--FNBNY Bancorp, Inc (the “Company”) and First National Bank of New York, (the “Bank”) announced today that they have appointed John F. Stewart as Chief Executive Officer and Stella M. Mendes as President of First National Bank of New York.

Mr. Stewart was an essential advisor to the FNBNY team since its inception. Previously, in 2009, Mr. Stewart retired after a 25-year career with Citigroup where he served in a variety of assignments which included Managing Director of Citibank’s US Branch Distribution, President of Citibank New York, President and CEO of Diners Club Canada and Managing Director of the Atlantic Division of CitiFinancial. He also served as Chairman of the Consumer Bankers Association and Treasurer of the New York Bankers Association.

Mr. Stewart is currently President of the Board of Trustees of the New York City Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and was honored with their 2009 “Relentless for a Cure” award. He has also served on the Board and the Advisory Board of the New York Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation since 2003. In 2012, Mr. Stewart and his family were honored by Winthrop University’s Cancer Center for Kids.

A former Captain in the United States Army, Mr. Stewart is a 1978 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY and holds an MBA from Columbia University.

Ms. Mendes was Executive Vice President & Chief Retail Banking Officer for Madison National Bank which completed its merger with First National Bank of New York. Ms. Mendes has over 25 years of experience in banking and was one of the principal architects of both the retail franchise and brand of Madison National Bank. She was an inaugural member of the executive team and integral in every phase of planning, including ensuring a successful merger.

Previously, Ms. Mendes served as Vice President and Regional Manager for 19 branch locations with 200 employees and over 900 million dollars in deposits for New York Community Bank where she was responsible for the development, oversight and execution of objectives impacting her region.

Ms. Mendes takes great pride in her philanthropic endeavors. In addition to her position as Secretary to the Board Directors of The Education and Assistance Corporation (EAC), she has also served on several committees to help raise awareness and funds for organizations such as Molloy College, American Cancer Society and The American Heart Association (AHA). She has been recognized for her charitable work by the AHA and EAC. She was selected as one of Long Island’s Top 50 Women in Business in 2008 and 2011, and recently joined Hofstra’s Women in Leadership. Ms. Mendes earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Hofstra University.
