WASHINGTON--()--Jeremy Rabinovitz and Alexander Hecht of ML Strategies, an affiliate of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., will be honored by the Small Business Technology Council (SBTC) for their work to reauthorize the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. These small business job creation programs have been reauthorized for six years as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, which President Obama recently signed into law.

Rabinovitz and Hecht will be presented with the “Champion of Small Business Innovation Award” for their work on the passage of the bill at a reception in conjunction with the annual National Small Business Association Board Meeting being held February 2 in Washington, D.C. Others being honored include Senators Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Chair and Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Senator Scott Brown (R-MA), and Representatives Ed Markey (D-MA) and Niki Tsongas (D-MA).

The SBIR and STTR programs, which direct federal research and development funding to small technology firms to assist them in commercializing innovative technologies, were last authorized in 2000. The programs have been operating under a series of temporary extensions since October, 2008.

Mr. Rabinovitz, Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Mr. Hecht, Vice President of Government Relations, represented the Save SBIR Coalition, a coalition of mid-sized technology firms from across the country, to assist in the passage of the reauthorization.
