Careerli Empowers Students to Find Career Enlightenment

Website profiles career options based on individual interests and personality

CHICAGO--()--Careerli, a new website that inspires and informs students as they search for the career that’s right for them, launches July 27.

The site lets you explore career options based on your interests, preferences and personality. It provides rich information on specific careers, where the jobs are, what they pay, and what others are saying about them. You can learn what education is required and where you can go to get it.

The site lets people identify themselves as a creator, explorer, leader, performer, socializer or thinker. They can select from industries including the arts, business, education, health, law, outdoors, science and trade. The resulting information delivers targeted career information in an engaging and easy-to-follow manner.

Visitors share what they find, and find what others have shared.

Careerli is the brainchild of Meghan O’Shaughnessy, Chris Riedel and David Zoltan, and got a jolt of momentum when it finished as one the top three teams at Startup Weekend Chicago, moving on to the SPARK competition.

The Careerli team incubates with Obtiva for three days of intensive business development, working with Ryan Briones, Chris Powers, Carl Thuringer, Shay Howe and Katherine Nelson-Reid. The team presents to the SPARK panel of judges at the Merchandise Mart July 27 at 5:00 p.m. The winning team receives prizes including a $10,000 cash grant.

“The majority of students urgently need career direction, and the volume of information can be so overwhelming, it’s hard to make sense of it all,” said O’Shaughnessy. “Careerli helps students filter career information based on their individual preferences and personalities, and centralizes the search for their future.”

Colbey Harris, Dean of Students in the College, The University of Chicago, said, “It's difficult for teenagers and young adults to grasp the wide variety of jobs that are available, yet they know what they like. A tool that collects interests and suggests possible career fields will be extremely valuable for early career exploration.”

“With the fierce competition in the job market, it’s vital that students make the right decisions early on – choosing the right major, going to the right school, taking the right courses, networking with the right people,” O’Shaughnessy added. “Careerli is a beneficial step forward for students needing insight and guidance as they make this important decision.”
