WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP announced today that Bruce Searby, a former Assistant United States Attorney, has joined the firm as a litigation counsel in the firm's Washington, D.C., office. For the past nine years, Mr. Searby has worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, in Los Angeles, as a member of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section and the Major Frauds Section, where he led several cases involving violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

At the USAO, Mr. Searby was co-lead counsel on the case of United States v. Gerald Green, et al., the first case brought under the FCPA in the entertainment industry, in which both defendants were convicted at a jury trial in late 2009. Mr. Searby also investigated and tried significant white-collar criminal cases involving public corruption, health care fraud, money laundering, and tax offenses. For his work successfully prosecuting a Los Angeles-area city mayor on corruption charges, Mr. Searby received the U.S. Justice Department’s prestigious Director’s Award in 2006.
Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2002, Mr. Searby, among other things, conducted internal investigations for U.S. public companies of alleged FCPA violations by overseas subsidiaries. Prior to that, Mr. Searby was a clerk to the Hon. A. Wallace Tashima on both the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in Pasadena, CA.
Mr. Searby received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1990, and in 1995, he graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where he made law review and Order of the Coif.
