BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BrewGene, announced today the launch of BrewGene.com and the BrewGene iPhone mobile app, which are innovative online and mobile tools that recommend beers based on users’ unique preferences. The recommendations are generated from BrewGene’s extensive database of beers, which feature more than 40,000 varieties from over 4,000 breweries, and is updated daily.
“BrewGene is based on the observation that while there is technology to recommend good music based on user preferences, there is not really anything that helps you find good beer,” said John Muggeridge. “With the vast selection of beer available today, (some of which are quite expensive), we strongly feel that BrewGene will be a useful tool to help our users identify new beers that they will enjoy.”
BrewGene delivers customized beer recommendations by comparing a user’s beer ratings to all of the other ratings in the database. These custom recommendations are continuously updated and refined as users rate more beers. In addition, BrewGene allows users to add tasting notes, upload beer photos, and add new beers. The online tool also encourages users to have “Beer Buddies” which allows them to see each other’s rankings, ratings, and recommendations.
In addition, BrewGene posts a “Beer of the Day,” offers the “Top 100” or top beers in the BrewGene database, and “My Beer Cellar” – a personalized list of the user’s rated beers.
