Amedisys Joins HITRUST Executive Council

BATON ROUGE, La.--()--Amedisys, one of the nation’s leading home health care and hospice companies, announced today that it has been elected to the Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) Executive Council. Information Security Officer Sanjeev Sah will serve a two-year term on the council as the Amedisys representative.

As a health care provider, Amedisys is entrusted with the personal health information of its patients. In 2010, Amedisys adopted the HITRUST Common Security Framework (CSF) for the development and implementation of the Information Security Program. The CSF is an information security framework that harmonizes the requirements of existing standards and regulations, including federal (HIPAA, HITECH), third party (PCI, COBIT) and government (NIST, FTC). “We are committed to not only caring for our patients’ health, but their information as well,” said Sah. “Working with HITRUST will allow us to collaborate with leaders in the industry to share best practices, knowledge, and tools that will help the health care industry reduce risk and increase security.”

HITRUST is led by a management team and governed by the executive council, made up of leaders from a variety of health care organizations. “HITRUST welcomes Amedisys to the Executive Council to represent the interests and perspective of home health providers,“ said Daniel Nutkis, Chief Executive Officer, HITRUST. “Collaboration with all types of healthcare organization is paramount to HITRUST’s commitment to advancing the protection of health information.”

About HITRUST:

The Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) was born out of the belief that information security should be a core pillar of, rather than an obstacle to, the broad adoption of health information systems and exchanges. HITRUST, in collaboration with health care, business, technology and information security leaders, has established the Common Security Framework (CSF), a certifiable framework that can be used by any and all organizations that create, access, store or exchange personal health and financial information. Beyond the establishment of the CSF, HITRUST is also driving the adoption of and widespread confidence in the framework and sound risk management practices through awareness, education, advocacy and other outreach activities.
