With its extensible design, administrative controls and multiple layers of security, this advanced Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) technology aims to transform how online payments are processed, much like Apple® transformed the way people use mobile phones.

Finance professionals attending the NACHA Payments 2011 conference here got their first look at the Payment WorkSuite platform, a project that took three years to engineer.

The initial release of Payment WorkSuite consists of six feature-rich, tightly integrated yet securely separated applications, all of which are designed to be fully interoperable with one another. Access and use of every application is controlled through assignable permissions and security measures. These six applications are:

CardVault®: Enterprise-level credit card tokenization that allows you to safely and securely process transactions via a “token” or “alias” while removing the risk of storing card data on your internal systems. This process replaces a customer’s real credit card numbers and related transaction information with unique, randomly generated reference keys that are useless to would-be hackers. For customers, storing their real card data offsite at one of 3Delta Systems’ secure data centers significantly reduces the scope, risks and costs of complying with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).

EC-Zone®: A virtual payment application that lets you process payments from a web browser, including transactions with enhanced line-item detail known as Level-3 data.

EC-Linx®: A server-to-server, real-time payment processing and authorization for e-commerce applications.

EC-Batch®: A file-based system for processing payment transactions in batches and uploading them from your internal computer systems to 3DSI’s payment gateway using secure file-transfer protocol (FTP).

EC-NavigatorSM: A browser-based, command-and-control center for all applications to maintain and access merchant information, customer accounts, cardholder data and reporting. Update one area and changes are applied automatically throughout the suite.

EC-SentrySM: An additional layer of fraud detection, prevention and account protection that enhances the security already inherent in Payment WorkSuite.

“We spent the first two years of our development cycle building the environment for our platform rather than the application – focusing primarily on authentication, authorization, security and cryptographic integrity,” explained Chris Browning, vice president of software engineering at 3Delta Systems. “Taking this inside-out approach allowed us to develop a multilayered, LEGO®-like architecture that allows us to quickly add or combine components – even roll out entirely new families of payment technologies – whether our customers come to us with their needs tomorrow or a decade from now.

“We also designed Payment WorkSuite so that every 3Delta Systems product plays well together via cross-platform collaboration. At the same time, we baked extra layers of security and fraud protection into the system’s DNA.”

Browning explained that the defensive layer encapsulating the centralized processing engine ensures all information requests are initiated from an authenticated user account and adhere to strict security requirements. Every application in the suite is also embedded with its own security measures and access controls. Before a request is processed, for example, authorization is verified by the individual application and then again by the unified security layer.

The company will begin boarding new customers onto Payment WorkSuite this month and migrate existing customers to the new platform starting in July.
