CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Shurtape Technologies, LLC, and ShurTech Brands, LLC, today have filed a lawsuit in federal district court for the Western District of North Carolina against 3M Company, St. Paul, Minn. The lawsuit alleges that 3M’s painter's tape with Edge-Lock™ infringes Shurtape’s U.S. Patent No. 6,828,008, which covers Shurtape's FrogTape® brand painter’s tape with PaintBlock® Technology (Shurtape’s “FrogTape® patent”). Specifically, Shurtape alleges that 3M’s Edge-Lock™ tape improperly incorporates an absorbent edge coating to minimize the movement of paint past a masking edge, a problem commonly referred to by painters as “bleed-through.”
The lawsuit further alleges that 3M is infringing Shurtape’s federally registered trademarks “PaintBlock®” and “Keeps Paint Out. Keeps Lines Sharp.®” The lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction to stop 3M’s alleged infringement of Shurtape’s intellectual property.
