FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--International Data Corporation (IDC) today announced the launch of the industry's first global tracker covering the business intelligence tools market on a semiannual basis. The Worldwide Semiannual Business Intelligence Tools Tracker covers five regions and 13 of the largest country markets, providing biannual market size, vendor share, and forecast data for the end-user query, reporting, analysis, and advanced analytics software market segments.
The Business Intelligence Tools Tracker is one of five new Software Trackers being launched by IDC, with results delivered to clients through both Excel-based spreadsheets and on-line query tools. A critical component to the Software Trackers is the global presence of IDC's software analysts who interview vendors, channel partners, and integrators on an ongoing basis at the country, regional, and global levels. This information is supplemented by IDC's software contracts database and carefully analyzed by IDC's newly established software company model team before it is entered into IDC's proprietary Tracker data platform.
"The Business Intelligence Tools Tracker is the second of the new Software Trackers that IDC has delivered to clients as part of its investment in a new generation of software data products," said Eric Prothero, senior vice president, Worldwide Tracker Research. "These products are being designed to deliver a better understanding of which vendors are gaining or losing share in mature and emerging countries. While this knowledge is obviously important to the vendors involved, it is also critical to corporate decision-makers in the purchasing cycle, partners, companies exploring merger and acquisition opportunities, and the investment community."
Results from the IDC Worldwide Semiannual Business Intelligence Tools Tracker show that the global market for business intelligence tools grew a very healthy 13.9% during the first half of 2010 (1H10) compared to the first six months of 2009, reaching $3.9 billion in software revenues. Within the $3.9 billion overall market, the End-User Query, Reporting, and Analysis segment accounted for $3.0 billion in revenues. Posting growth of more than 44% from the same period in 2009, India was the fastest growing of the large country markets with $23.6 million of vendor revenues in 1H10. Over the next five years, the Latin America region is expected to grow the most, at an average annual rate of just over 14%. The other regions are expected to experience similar growth, with the exception of North America and Japan, which are forecasted to grow in the 4-5% annual range.
Dan Vesset, program vice president, Business Analytics Solutions, noted "After three decades, business intelligence (or BI) tools are finally entering the mainstream market. Over the next decade the growing awareness of the benefits of BI tools to support decision-making processes will drive demand for ad-hoc query, multidimensional analysis, operational reporting, statistical analysis, and data mining tools offered by large IT providers and a new set of specialty BI tools vendors."
Of the more than 50 vendors covered in the Business Intelligence Tools Tracker, SAP, with global revenues in this category of $826 million during 1H10, led the market with a 21.3% share. SAS, IBM, Oracle, and Microstrategy rounded out the top 5 vendors from a global perspective.
IDC's Worldwide Semiannual Business Intelligence Tools Tracker provides total market size and vendor share for the following technology areas: end user, query, reporting, and analysis; and advanced analytics software. Measurement for this tracker is total software revenue, which includes license plus maintenance plus SaaS and other subscription revenue. The Tracker covers 5 geographic regions with country-level data for 13 nations. Annual five-year market forecasts for this Tracker are updated semiannually and include five-year annual market projections. Forecasts are available at worldwide, regional, and country levels.
