LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AVP, Inc. (OTCBB:AVPI) a lifestyle sports and entertainment company focused on professional beach volleyball, has announced that as part of its expansion strategy into new markets, it has partnered with Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) to launch the AVP Crocs Hot Winter Nights Indoor Beach Volleyball Tour and to assist in promotion of four of their marquee events in Southern California, including the AVP Manhattan Beach Open.
“AEG is the industry leader when it comes to indoor venue development and management as well as creating and promoting 'content' for those venues,” said AVP CEO and commissioner Leonard Armato. “We are proud of this new partnership with AEG and look forward to building the AVP Crocs Hot Winter Nights Tour into a powerful vehicle for showcasing the AVP Crocs Tour experience.”
Considered to be one of the world's premier sports and entertainment companies, having put its name on high-profile properties like STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, the spectacular new O2 Arena in London and some of the world’s top athletic franchises, AEG is also known for creating some of the world’s top non-sports entertainment through its AEG Live division, from Celine Dion’s “A New Day” in Las Vegas to “Dancing With the Stars – The Tour” and other top-flight concerts and entertainment.
The AVP Crocs Hot Winter Nights Tour travels to 19 cities over a seven-week span in January and February, 2008, as approximately 200 tons of sand will be dumped inside arenas at each stop and beach volleyball will be played as a multi-city indoor tour for the first time. Many of the tour events will be played in AEG-owned or AEG-operated arenas.
“We think this is a tremendous opportunity to expand our business as well as to fill dates in our arenas with top-quality entertainment,” said Eric Stevens, president of AEG Events & Media. “Over the years, the AVP pro beach volleyball tour has established itself as an extremely popular sport and one that is well attended by fans with strong support from corporate sponsors. We believe that by bringing the game indoors to these cold-weather markets, we will give fans there an exciting new entertainment option.”
The AVP kicked off on Jan. 10 a 19-event winter indoor beach volleyball tour that makes stops in Oklahoma City, OK; St. Louis, MO; Kansas City, KS; Milwaukee, WI; Madison, WI; La Crosse, WI; Minneapolis, MN; Columbus, OH; Albany, NY; Trenton, NJ; Norfolk, VA; Charlottesville, VA; Omaha, NE; Rosemont, IL; Bloomington, IL; Spokane, WA; Everett, WA; Portland, OR; and Las Vegas, NV.
Each event on the AVP Crocs Hot Winter Nights Tour is a one-night competition with four men and four women professional players competing in a round-robin format inside an arena with sand trucked in to create a “beach” court indoors. The AVP also will create a beach-party atmosphere inside the arenas, similar to that of its wildly successful outdoor events.
Part of the appeal of bringing the AVP to the new markets is that many of the cities on the 2008 schedule for the AVP Crocs Hot Winter Nights Tour are significantly smaller than those traditionally visited by the AVP’s outdoor tour, and few have a franchise in any of the four major professional North American sports leagues.
“Just because there’s snow on the ground or there isn’t an NBA or NHL franchise in a particular major market city doesn’t mean that there aren’t fans interested in professional sports and top-notch entertainment,” Stevens added. “When we bring acts like Justin Timberlake or Kenny Chesney to these arenas, the markets always enthusiastically support them. We are convinced that pro beach volleyball will receive the same attention and support.”
In addition to working together on the AVP Crocs Hot Winter Nights indoor pro beach volleyball tour, the AVP and AEG will team up to promote four Southern California events on the AVP Crocs Tour during the summer, in Huntington Beach, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach and Manhattan Beach. AEG will function as a local promoter of the events, responsible for ticket sales and selling local sponsorships, including suites and hospitality.
