Jumbo Leaps Ahead of Dutch Retail Pack with Technology Enabled Strategic Growth Plan; Lawson Completes Major Retail Application Implementation

BRACKNELL, U.K.--()--April 11, 2006--Lawson Software (Nasdaq:LWSN) today announced that Jumbo Supermarkten, a leading Dutch Supermarket retailer, is the first customer to go live with the latest version of Lawson Retail Operations (LRO). The upgrade will enable Jumbo to realise ambitious growth plans and to support its 'Seven Certainties' which aim to ensure the best price, service, range and satisfaction for customers every day.

Jumbo, a long-term customer, chose Lawson Library (a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use application) as the backbone of Jumbo's information hub, feeding all mission critical applications across its operations. Jumbo also relies on Lawson Merchandising to comprehend and manage the variables that go into pricing and assortment decisions and Supply Chain for Retail to eliminate hidden costs, improve service and boost profit margins.

In a fiercely competitive retail landscape, against a backdrop of grocery price wars in The Netherlands, Jumbo has grown faster than its competitors; 50 percent in 2003 and 20 percent in 2004. Its long-term business goal is to transition from a regional operator to a major national player whilst continuing to offer customers lower prices and better product ranges and customer service than any other supermarket. Jumbo looks forward to further success through organic growth in the next years.

"Our priority in the medium-term is to build the business and to open up to one new store a month. We have a winning formula for finding new stores and turning them round quickly so we need strategic partners who enable me to deliver on my business goals," said Frits van Eerd, Chief Executive Officer at Jumbo Supermarkten. "LRO is scaleable and consistent. It helps us deliver. The effect goes straight to the bottom line so this application is used intensively to assist with the attainment of Jumbo's every day lowest price certainty."

Brian Male, vice president, International, Lawson Software said, "We pride ourselves on building long-term, meaningful relationships with our clients and so this latest implementation with Jumbo truly solidifies our position as a strategic partner." He continued, "Once again, the Lawson team worked seamlessly with the client on this complex upgrade - which included databases, hardware and software. The project was completed over the busy Christmas period with no downtime and on schedule. We are delighted that all existing LRO customers are embarking on upgrading to this new version."

Based in the Netherlands, Jumbo Supermarkten is the cornerstone of the Van Eerd Groep, a family-owned company with its origin in the wholesale grocery sector. From the outset their formula of providing discount prices with the service level and product range of a quality supermarket combined with the friendliness of the corner grocery store has been very successful. By the mid 1980s 10 stores were operating in the Netherlands, today there are 76 Jumbo Supermarkten stores across the Netherlands selling over 31,000 products, the largest assortment available in the Netherlands. The company has a turnover of over 850 million euros and 3.5% market-share in a fragmented market place. Jumbo Supermarkten employs 10,000 people across the shops, head office and distribution centre.
