Quigo Launches AdSonar Contextual Advertising Platform; Quigo Offers the Online Publishing and Ad Serving Industries a New Contextually Targeted Advertising System

NEW YORK--()--Aug. 13, 2003--Quigo Technologies Inc., a leading developer of proprietary search solutions for online contextual advertising, search engine marketing and business intelligence, announces the launch of the AdSonar(TM) contextual advertising solution.

AdSonar enables online publishers and licensees to serve contextually targeted advertising that achieves greater relevancy, reach and revenue for publishers, licensees and advertisers alike. Along with contextual solutions built "in-house", Overture has licensed Quigo's AdSonar, and will combine their solution with AdSonar's powerful, dynamic capabilities.

AdSonar achieves superior relevancy by integrating automated semantic technology with human intelligence. AdSonar uses proprietary semantic algorithms to automatically identify, match and deliver the most relevant ads to each particular content page. For example, a web page featuring a travel article about Hawaii could offer advertising for hotels in Hawaii, airlines flying to Hawaii, unique tourist attractions in Hawaii and more. One advantage of AdSonar is in giving publishers the option of a human editorial setup for defining relevancy parameters and 'teaching' Quigo's machine learning algorithms which parts of each page should be targeted. The human editing process ensures that only the relevant parts of each document are targeted for ads, significantly improving the relevancy of the results.

In addition to its superior relevancy, AdSonar's contextual advertising technology can be set up to support foreign languages within a matter of days. Using patent-pending semantic algorithms, AdSonar creates ontologies -- networks of concepts and relationships between them -- in most languages automatically. "For some of our competitors, foreign language ontologies have to be rewritten manually from scratch which could take months per language. With several international partnerships in the pipeline, a fast foreign language roll-out is a key competitive advantage for AdSonar," said Quigo CEO Michael Yavonditte.

AdSonar, a fully outsourced contextual advertising platform, provides a continuous revenue stream for licensees and publishers of all sizes, particularly ones with targeted quality content. Contextually relevant ads can generate far greater revenue than banners by earning higher advertising prices or Cost Per Thousand impressions (CPM) and deliver click-through rates that may be up to ten times greater than traditional run-of-network ads, according to industry research. AdSonar gives publishers easy control to define relevancy parameters including keyword and category definitions, word filtering and more, and the flexibility to position ads anywhere on the web page to best meet their needs, and the needs of their advertisers. Publishers may also choose to display ads from multiple vendors, or they may choose to partner with only one search listings provider.

AdSonar offers advertisers the opportunity to present their products or services in an environment more conducive to purchasing, while more effectively reaching their desired target audience. "From the first soap opera to product placement in movies and TV programming, advertisers have searched for contextually relevant vehicles to market their products. Contextually targeted advertising solutions like Quigo's are the holy grail for advertisers", said Tom Hespos, president of New York agency Underscore Marketing.

Online contextual advertising is part of the fast growing search engine marketing industry, which experienced growth of 275% in 2001 and 325% in 2002 to $927.4 million in the US, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau. "We believe online search engine marketing will continue its impressive growth, possibly exceeding an estimated $7 billion in 2007 worldwide revenues, and contextual advertising, although in very early stage, is one of the fastest growing new segments within this industry," says U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray senior research analyst Safa Rashtchy. "Through its technology and now this relationship with Overture, Quigo has established a solid presence in this industry."

According to industry estimates, contextual advertising could reach $2 billion within five years.

"AdSonar is an easy-to-implement solution for online publishers or ad serving companies interested in delivering contextually targeted advertising," added Quigo CEO Michael Yavonditte. "Through a combination of software powered by Quigo's Reverse Matching(TM) and semantic technology, and the manual control of human editing, AdSonar provides the only "best-of-both-worlds" online contextual advertising solution on the market today."
