Stasher Launches New Collection to Raise Awareness for Planet’s Seas

New Endangered Seas Color Collection Launches in April

EMERYVILLE, Calif.--()--Stasher, the endlessly reusable alternative to single-use plastic, is launching a new color collection aimed at raising awareness around some of the most endangered aquatic regions on earth. The Endangered Seas collection launches today and reflects the unique and dazzling colors of our planet’s incredible seas.

This new collection will include five new Sandwich Stasher bags that are different from any prior collection. Each bag is banded with different colors that are reminiscent of the places they drew inspiration from: the Coral Triangle, the Galapagos, the Arctic, the Black Sea and the Yellow Sea.

To continue the company’s mission to Save What Matters, Stasher will be donating 1% of sales from every bag sold from this collection to the Surfrider Foundation, a leading nonprofit that is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches. Additionally, in the month of April, Stasher will be donating $1 from every bag purchased (up to $100,000) from www.stasherbag.com directly to Surfrider to help in their ongoing commitment to preserve our world’s oceans.

“Every one of our Earth Day collections are aimed at bringing more awareness to the sacred places all over our amazing planet. From the Mojave Desert and Coral Reefs to our world’s ocean, we as a brand are continually inspired by the rich and vibrant hues of our landscapes and the growing need to protect our wild spaces,” said Shannon Morgan Stearns, vice president of marketing at Stasher. “We are so proud of this collection in particular because it aligns so closely with our brand values and also directly supports the ongoing work of our amazing nonprofit partner, the Surfrider Foundation.”

Approximately 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans and scientists estimate that 50-80% of the oxygen production on Earth comes from the ocean. Each bag in the new collection is intended to illuminate the importance of oceans within our global ecosystem. The ocean is threatened by unique challenges, whether it’s overfishing, warming seas or plastic waste. In particular:

  • The Coral Triangle is home to 76% of the world’s coral species, the highest coral diversity in the world.
  • For the Arctic, the single greatest threat is climate change. Warming in the Arctic is expected to be two to three times greater than the rest of the world. Even a slight shift in temperature could potentially result in an ice-free Arctic within this century.
  • The Black Sea has a significant absence of oxygen in the water. On average, some 85% of the litter found in the Black Sea is plastic.
  • The Galapagos is a unique island ecosystem due to its proximity to the equator and cool ocean currents. Almost 20% of the marine life in the Galapagos islands can be found nowhere else.
  • The Yellow Sea is threatened by industrial pollution, agricultural runoff and domestic sewage which continue to contaminate the coastal waters and habitats. It’s considered one of the most degraded marine areas on Earth.

“Single-use plastic is one of the most pervasive threats to our ocean, polluting our coasts and endangering our seas on a global scale. This is why Surfrider continues to advocate for eliminating single-use plastics at the source, while encouraging individuals to opt for reusable alternatives,” said Dr. Chad Nelsen, chief executive officer of the Surfrider Foundation. “Stasher is not only helping to raise awareness around this critical issue, but it’s also providing products that help people reduce their single-use plastic consumption. We are proud to partner with Stasher around the Endangered Seas collection to help keep our treasured ocean and waterways plastic-free.”

The Endangered Seas collection will be available for purchase at www.stasherbag.com and retailers like Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Mighty Nest. In a continued effort to Save What Matters, Stasher users have prevented more than one billion (and counting) single-use plastic bags from ending up in our oceans and landfills.
