NASHVILLE, Tenn.--()--After four years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Fletcher Lance is leaving to become CEO of The Hardenbergh Group, a health care holding company in Nashville that provides staffing, consulting and business services to various health care providers in the areas of credentialing, privileging, third-party peer review, risk management, compliance and quality assurance.

The Hardenbergh Group is composed of two operating entities, The Hardenbergh Group and MDReview. The first is a leading provider of staffing and consulting services related to credentialing, risk management and medical staff department quality assurance. The second, MDReview, provides independent, third-party physician peer review and consultation to hospitals across the country. The Hardenbergh Group is owned by Lead Capital Partners, a private equity firm headquartered in Nashville.

Lance is leaving his executive vice president role at VUMC, where he oversaw the medical center’s Vanderbilt Health Professional Solutions (VHPS). After Lance took over in 2017, VHPS launched and dramatically grew four for-profit properties: Vanderbilt Supply Chain Collaborative; VHRxS, a specialty pharmacy business; Nashville Biosciences, a genetics company using data to drive R&D; and beginning to build a state-of-the-art lab services company for Vanderbilt Medical Center. The four portfolio companies launched under Lance’s direction and saw substantial growth over the past four years.

“Fletcher’s knowledge of and success within the health care field have positioned him as an industry leader. His ability to grow businesses is proven and a true asset,” said Pryor Smartt, managing partner of Lead Capital Partners. “His commitment to understanding the inner workings of and pain points within health care systems, coupled with his business acumen, makes him the perfect person to grow and expand The Hardenbergh Group. I could not be more confident in his ability to lead the company.”

Prior to Vanderbilt, Lance worked as the Global Health Care Practice lead and managing director for North Highland, a national management consulting firm. In his 12 years there, he helped grow the health care practice from under $5 million to over $50 million in revenue. He also became one of Nashville’s most knowledgeable experts on the subject of the Affordable Care Act and the myriad changes it brought to the industry. Lance’s resume also includes service as a former Nashville Health Care Council board member, membership in the first class of Frist Fellows, the Healthcare Hero Award by the Nashville Business Journal and a specialty feature in Modern Healthcare for work done on Hispanic health.

“I love discovering potential within a health care market and finding ways to realize that potential,” Lance said. “I have benefited so much from my time at Vanderbilt, but I think nothing has excited me as much as the opportunity to take the reins of The Hardenbergh Group. The company’s primary businesses have strong foundations, and there is enormous opportunity for growth. I am ready for the challenge, and extremely grateful to Pryor and the Lead Capital team for putting their trust in me.”
