IRVINE, Calif.--()--The Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) announced today that it has launched the PatientAider® app in Arabic for iPhone and Android users. This was made possible by the Saudi Patient Safety Center who, as a Committed Partner of the PSMF, volunteered to translate the content of PatientAider to Arabic to serve more than 420 million patients who speak Arabic across the world.

PatientAider is designed to cut through confusing medical jargon to provide plain-language explanations of medical terms, protocols, and risks that patients may encounter when they go into the healthcare environment. In light of the pandemic, COVID-19 resources for patients and family members have also been translated into Arabic within the mobile app.

Features of the PatientAider app include:

  • Strategies for communication with nurses and doctors
  • Information about common medical errors made in hospitals
  • Helpful videos from clinical experts
  • Links to dive more deeply into each topic
  • Stress-reduction techniques

“We are thrilled to launch the PatientAider app with the help of our partner the Saudi Patient Safety Center and know that information is power,” said David Mayer, Chief Executive Officer of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation. “On behalf of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation, I would like to thank Dr. Abdulelah Alhawsawi for seeing the potential of PatientAider and helping us bring this resource to the Arabic-speaking patients of the world. It’s with the generosity of volunteers Dr. Alhawsawi and his team that we have been able to make so much progress towards our goal of ZERO preventable patient deaths.”

“Patient empowerment is the cornerstone of transforming patient safety. That’s why we are so delighted with the launch of the Arabic version of the PatientAider app, which will be a powerful tool to empower Arabic speaking patients throughout the world,” said Dr. Abdulelah Alhawsawi. “I would like to thank the Patient Safety Movement Foundation for their leadership in promoting patient centeredness and safety in the U.S. and beyond.”
