COBOURG, Ontario--()--After three intensive rounds of competitive down-selection, Ambience Data today won the fifth annual N100 Startup competition, securing $100,000 in early-stage investment from Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation.

The company will establish a custom manufacturing operation in Northumberland for their proprietary line of environmental monitoring sensors, which will create up to four new full time positions to drive the expanded cleantech production centre.

“We are thrilled to win N100 and to have the support of Northumberland CFDC, the Northumberland Manufacturers’ Association and the business community in establishing and spinning up our microfactory,” said Ambience Data CEO Nisha Sarveswaran. “Their investment in innovation—along with guidance in optimizing our productivity and performance—will position Ambience Data for sustained growth as we continue to deliver and deploy our units with customers across North America and around the world.”

Recently graduated from Batch 19 of 500 Startups’ four-month seed program (read about their experience here) Ambience Data’s sensor-agnostic end-to-end IoT platform allows users to monitor, analyze, understand and predict environmental parameters.

“We combine our hardware device data with open source data such as traffic, pollution and weather information in real-time,” explains Sarveswaran. “This allows us to analyze trends and provide useful insights to our customers.”

Based on their exceptional performance in the N100 Top 3, Northumberland CFDC has utilized its broader suite of programs to develop funding opportunities for both of the other finalists Suncayr (a smart UV indicator that can tell you when your sunscreen is no longer protecting you) and LOCKET Applications (an interactive relationship application for teens developed by Canadian media personality and relationship therapist Dr. Kimberly Moffit).

The competition, which began in March of this year with 35 entries, officially ended today at the Qoints N100 Startup BBQ held in Cobourg with special guest, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Northumberland−Peterborough South, Kim Rudd.

“We are excited to be backing Ambience Data: an exceptional Canadian technology startup and one that is led by a strong female CEO and Founder,” said Rick Holmes, Chair of Northumberland CFDC’s Board of Directors. “The technology is impressive but even more so, the people who are behind its commercialization. Congratulations to all.”
