LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Europe’s largest restaurant reservation platform, Bookatable, has announced the appointment of Michel Cassius as the company’s CEO.
Cassius has spent most of his career within the technology industry and brings with him a wealth of experience in business innovation, development, and international growth.
Bookatable was acquired by Michelin at the start of 2016, heralding an exciting growth chapter for the business. In addition to giving it a presence in many European countries where Bookatable is already established, the acquisition has strengthened and accelerated the development of Michelin's technology platform for online restaurant reservations. It has enabled it to develop both the quality of service offered to customers and new services, to build the offers of the future, and Michelin will be able to roll out its offering in new countries in the future.
Cassius’ appointment comes as Bookatable achieves considerable growth in the European market this year. With more than 15,000 restaurant partners across Europe, the Bookatable has seen its monthly visitors increase by 46% year-on-year, with revenues up by 41% in the first half of 2016, compared to 2015. The brand also launched its first above-the-line campaign, the integrated multi-million-pound campaign ‘Get Out More’, in August 2016.
Cassius held several leadership roles within some of the best leading global brands. He started his career with Apple, before joining EA (Electronic Arts), and finally Microsoft where he was overseeing the European Xbox publishing business and was responsible for launching Microsoft’s online games business in Europe with Xbox Live.
Cassius then co-founded Yo-Yo Games, publisher of GameMaker, the multi-platform development tool for Indy games developers, leading to it successfully being acquired by Playtech in 2015.
Most recently Cassius has worked as an MD, CEO and non-executive director for a number of technology businesses. Passionate about technology and innovation, he is also a seed investor in tech start-ups and acts as a mentor for worldwide start-up accelerator, TechStars.
Commenting on his appointment as CEO, Cassius said: “I am incredibly pleased to be joining the Bookatable team, especially at such an exciting time for the business. I’m certainly looking forward to building on the existing success of Bookatable, driving further growth and development, while cementing the brand’s position as the leading online restaurant reservation platform in Europe”.
Cassius succeeds Joe Steele as Bookatable CEO from November 2016.
