ALPHARETTA, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Healthcare IT jobs continue to be one of the fastest growing careers in the United States, producing high salaries, job security and employment satisfaction, according to a new national survey by HealthITJobs.com.
The survey found that the new mean salary for healthcare IT professionals is $89,879, with 30 percent earning an average bonus of $13,100. Seventy-three percent responded they would recommend a career in health IT to others.
The survey found the highest average salary is currently being paid in the Mid Atlantic states -- $105,923 annually. The lowest is in the Midwest with an $81,255 average annual salary.
“In this struggling economy, health IT jobs provide good paying, steady employment,” said Tim Cannon, vice president of product management and marketing at HealthITJobs.com. “Our survey found 80 percent of those working in this field are satisfied with their jobs. Such a high satisfaction level speaks to the positive aspects of careers in healthcare technology.”
The nationwide survey also found that there is a 17.5 percent difference in pay between men and women with men earning on average $99,566 while women earn an average $82,036.
Health IT professionals range from entry-level workers in the healthcare market to seasoned professions such as systems analysts and project managers tasked with implementation of electronic medical record systems. In fact, the survey data suggests the age of the average health IT professional remains relatively young. Cannon explained that the survey found 52 percent of respondents were 44 years of age or younger.
In assembling its 2014 Salary Survey, HealthITJobs.com surveyed more than 8,000 of its members during July and August 2014 and collected 697 responses.
