Ethernet Switch Market Down 15% in the First Quarter as Growth Stalls, Reports Infonetics

Market leader Cisco's revenue declined 7% year-over-year in 1Q14, and its shortfall was to some degree made up by other vendors, such as HP, which produced steady results, Juniper, which was up 52%, and Arista, which was up over 90%. (Graphic: Infonetics Research)

BOSTON--()--Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 1st quarter (1Q14) Ethernet Switches report, which tracks unmanaged, web-managed, and fully-managed fixed and chassis switches by port speed (100M/1G/10G/40G/100G).

ANALYST QUOTE

“In the first quarter of 2014, Ethernet switch revenue declined sharply, as a strong performance by Juniper and Arista was not enough to offset weak results at number-one Cisco. For now, the positive growth momentum that developed in the second half of 2013 has stalled,” notes Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research.

ETHERNET SWITCH MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

  • In 1Q14, web-managed switches are up by double digits sequentially and from the year-ago 1st quarter
