WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced winning 10 PROSE Awards including the top honor, R.R. Hawkins Award, for Alan Turing: His Work and Impact edited by Dr. S. Barry Cooper and Dr. Jan van Leeuwen. Six books and one journal published by Elsevier received a total of ten awards at the Association of American Publishers’ (AAP) Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Annual Conference in Washington, DC yesterday.

The R.R. Hawkins Award was created in 1976 to recognize outstanding scholarly works in all disciplines of the arts and sciences. This year, for the first time, the Hawkins Award authors will also receive a cash prize of $10,000.
“The breadth of Turing’s interests is astonishing,” said Myer Kutz of Myer Kutz Associates and Mathematics Judge for PROSE in the official announcement made yesterday. “The products of this unique mind are made accessible to both specialists and general readers by this touching and learned book – a fitting recipient of 2013 R.R. Hawkins Award.”
Alan Turing: His Work and Impact brings insight into the context and significance of Alan Turing’s impact on mathematics, computing, computer science, informatics, morphogenesis, philosophy and the greater scientific world. It also includes the most significant original works from the four-volume set of The Collected Works of A. M. Turing, as well as some of his previously unpublished content and images.
“Alan Turing is considered the founder of computer science, having developed in 1936 the ‘Turing Machine,’ which became the foundation for the modern computer.
