DOWNERS GROVE, Ill.--()--DeVry University, one of the largest, private sector universities in North America, with more than 90,000 students enrolled in the United States and Canada, announced today the appointment of Brian D. Bethune, Ph.D., as national dean of its College of Media Arts & Technology. As national dean, Dr. Bethune will provide leadership and oversight, establishing the direction of degree programs and managing curriculum and course development.

Dr. Bethune comes to DeVry University from Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), the seventh-largest community college in the U.S., where he held the position of college-wide dean of creative arts. Dr. Bethune oversaw the academic curricular programs in theater, music, art, dance, visual communication and design, media arts and studies, journalism and mass communications, and recording arts technology for all three of Tri-C’s campuses. Dr. Bethune was also instrumental in the development of Tri-C’s Center for Creative Arts, which opened in 2009 and houses the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s Library and Archives.

Prior to his roles at Tri-C, Dr. Bethune served as the founding Chair of Fine and Performing Arts at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio, and as chief executive officer and artistic director of the Toledo Repertoire Theatre. Dr. Bethune holds a Ph.D. in Theatre from Bowling Green State University, a master’s degree in fine arts from Minnesota State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota.
