Relias’ Dementia Care Specialist Training Recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association® Curriculum Review

Training aimed at implementing the latest evidence-based approaches to dementia care amid growing number of Americans affected

MORRISVILLE, N.C.--()--Relias, the trusted education and workforce enablement partner to more than 11,000 healthcare and human services organizations and 4.5 million caregivers, announced today its Dementia Care Specialist training has received recognition from the Alzheimer’s Association®. The Alzheimer’s Association® has recognized Relias for successfully completing curriculum review and incorporating its evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations in the following topic areas: Alzheimer’s and dementia, person-centered care, assessment and care planning, activities of daily living, and behaviors and communication.

"As the population of older Americans with dementia continues to climb, it's more important than ever for professional caregivers in all settings to receive effective training and education that enable them to provide the best possible care to people with dementia,” said Maria Samot, Senior Vice President of Content Development at Relias. “We're delighted to receive this recognition from the Alzheimer’s Association®, proving our continued dedication to providing the best educational resources that support superior clinical outcomes.”

Providers who train their staff with a training program recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association® are also eligible to purchase the essentiALZ certification exam for their staff, an individual online certification exam that assesses understanding of quality dementia care practices. Professional care workers who pass the exam are certified in essentiALZ for two years.

“The Alzheimer’s Association is pleased that Relias is aligning its training program with our Dementia Care Practice Recommendations,” said Emily Shubeck, director of the Alzheimer’s Association. “By taking this step, Relias has demonstrated its commitment to delivering evidence-based training with a person-centered focus."

High-quality dementia care training can improve communication between caregivers and people living with dementia, leading to a reduction in dementia-related behaviors and an increase in job satisfaction and staff retention.

The Alzheimer’s Association offers flexible options for providers and individuals to implement quality care. For information on pathways to training and certification, visit alz.org/trainingandcertification.
