NASHVILLE, Tenn.--()--Reimagine Care, the nation’s leading provider of virtual and in-home cancer care, along with CU Innovations at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU), a leading research institution committed to fostering innovation and excellence in education and healthcare, are proud to announce a poster presentation at the prestigious 2023 American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition.

The annual meeting serves as a premier platform for the exchange of groundbreaking research and advancements in the field of hematology, bringing together healthcare professionals, researchers, and industry leaders from around the world. This year, Reimagine Care and CU are thrilled to be among the contributors, presenting their forward-looking approach to oncology care.

The poster presentation at the ASH Annual Meeting provides an in-depth overview of results of the innovative study titled, “Design of a Patient-Centered Approach to Manage Bone Marrow Transplant Patients and CAR-T Cell Therapy in a Home Setting.” Over half of cancer patients, especially bone marrow transplant patients, who receive cytotoxic chemotherapy and/or immunotherapies experience harmful side effects. Early intervention and treatment are key in improving outcomes but delays from self-assessments may hinder follow-up care. The CU research team examined a new outpatient care approach for these patients, with Reimagine Care providing remote patient monitoring (RPM) and symptom management through digital health technologies intended to overcome these challenges.

Reimagine Care’s Virtual Care Center, comprised of oncology clinicians, responded to alerts from patients’ wearable devices, monitored patient communications through an interactive chat system, contacted patients, recorded symptoms, and referred patients for follow-up with their CU care providers as needed. Patients were asked through surveys and interviews about their experiences in the study. Of note, all responding patients reported that the RPM made them feel more cared for by their health care team and found the RPM device easy to use. Technology-assisted remote patient monitoring was found to be feasible and acceptable for use with bone marrow transplant and CAR-T cell therapy patients at home. Reimagine Care’s program comes at a time of evolving needs and preferences for patients with cancer, who are increasingly seeking a more convenient treatment experience and real-time communication with their care team.

Pallav Mehta, M.D., Medical Director for Reimagine Care, shares, “Having the results of our collaboration with CU presented at ASH further validates Reimagine Care’s Cancer Care at Home program and the positive impact remote patient monitoring and our Virtual Care Center has on specifically bone marrow transplant and CAR T-cell therapy patients. It is an honor to serve CU patients with timely support to identify and manage symptoms in a proactive manner. This patient-centric collaboration exemplifies the power of innovation and commitment to advancing solutions in healthcare.”

Glen Peterson, DNP and principal investigator for the study shares, “We were excited to collaborate with Reimagine Care for our Oncology Care at Home feasibility study. They served as a suitable partner for the remote patient monitoring and triage support we were looking for, and were actively engaged in finding ways to make this kind of care better and more acceptable to patients. Their seamless integration of virtual care allowed Bone Marrow Transplant and CAR T-Cell Therapy participants to easily connect with oncology clinicians from the comfort of their home. Virtual care and remote patient monitoring is the future of healthcare – where patients can actively participate in their well-being with the support of cutting-edge technology combined with care from dedicated healthcare professionals.” He continues, “We have learned valuable things from this work, and eagerly anticipate the next steps in using a program like this to continue improving care for cancer patients.”
