First Annual “Remote Hiring Maturity in U.S. Tech Survey” provides new insights into tech industry’s remote hiring market dynamics

Over Half of Tech Professionals Open to Hiring Outside the U.S., New Revelo Study Finds

MIAMI--()--Revelo, the hyper-growth technology company offering the largest online platform for U.S. companies to hire world-class remote engineering talent in Latin America, says that over half of all tech professionals polled in its first annual Remote Hiring Maturity in U.S. Tech Survey are open to seeking and hiring talent outside the U.S. The goal of the study was to provide deep insights into the tech industry’s remote hiring market landscape in order to understand technology teams’ challenges with acquiring tech talent, maturity and solutions in remote hiring and key factors hiring managers value when hiring remotely.

The survey, conducted between April and May, 2022, surveyed 259 U.S. based full-time technology professionals, randomly sampled from a panel representative of the U.S. census for age and gender. The respondents ranged from small and mid-sized organizations to enterprise businesses, and job functions including IT, Software, Data Engineering, and Product Management/Design. The majority of those surveyed were in mid to senior level positions and either influenced or participated directly in hiring decisions.

Key findings include:

  • 74% of engineering teams are currently hiring remotely, with an additional 7% looking to do so in the next 6-12 months. 55% had no experience with remote hiring prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • A healthy 53% of respondents were somewhat or very open to hiring remotely outside the U.S.
  • Technical expertise, soft skills and English proficiency were the top factors while considering remote hiring in general.
  • For remote hiring outside the United States, English proficiency and alignment with U.S. Time Zones become more important along with technical expertise and soft skills
  • Cost was the least important consideration in remote hiring regardless of whether the talent was within or outside the United States
  • Awareness of specialized remote talent platforms as a solution for hiring globally remains low. Only 40% of respondents were aware of at least one of the more popular specialized remote hiring platforms, including Revelo, and only 12% of the respondents were using such a solution
  • 61% surveyed still rely on internal talent acquisition teams, followed by self-service and traditional staffing agencies

Lachlan de Crespigny, co-founder of Revelo said, “When companies cannot identify and hire the right talent for the job, it stymies innovation and the economy, and it hamstrings companies' ability to compete and win. The insight to be taken from this survey reveals that tech employers have already made the shift to a new normal of hiring remote talent, and what motivates them is not cheap labor, but quality of candidates in terms of proficiently skilled for the job, English-speaking, and aligned with U.S. time zones. This is where we, at Revelo, excel, allowing U.S. companies to easily access the wealth of tech talent that exists in Latin America.”

Since its founding in 2015, Revelo has helped over 7,000 engineers get hired across 3 continents. Revelo has grown rapidly during the last two years with 5 times revenue growth within the last one year, of which 95% is U.S.-based. Rapid expansion will continue to be a key focus for the company going forward.

de Crespigny added, “Revelo helps U.S. companies get the pre-vetted, high quality talent that they need with a turnkey, end-to-end platform that offers everything needed to source, hire, and manage international full-time remote employees, including onboarding, payroll, benefits, taxes and compliance that make the sometimes cumbersome process of hiring global talent, fast, hassle-free, streamlined and efficient.”
