“Repeal Bill 124”: CUPE Ontario Holds Press Conference With Frontline Workers

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Fred Hahn, President of CUPE Ontario, will join with three frontline workers to launch a renewed campaign to repeal Bill 124, the Charter-violating legislation that capped total compensation, including wages, for public sector workers to only 1 per cent.

In light of historic inflation, currently at 7.7%, that amounts to an unacceptable wage cut. This means that frontline workers – like PSWs, RPNs, caretakers at Universities, and so many others – are now struggling to make ends meet, let alone get ahead.

“I’m a strong believer when you get inflation, we’ve got to treat people fairly,” Ford said to reporters the day after the election. “We’re going to sit down and negotiate fairly with…no matter what union it is.”

“Well, now’s the time to hold Ford to this,” says Hahn. “Now’s the time to repeal Bill 124.”

Members representing many sectors of CUPE Ontario – healthcare, social services, and Universities – are coordinating to call on the Ford Conservatives to repeal Bill 124, the Constitution-violating legislation which caps total compensation, including wages, for public sector workers to only 1 per cent.
