North Point Resources launches A Grown-Up’s Guide to Kids’ Wiring

Communications expert & author Kathleen Edelman releases a veritable playbook to help coaches, counselors, teachers & parents speak in a way that kids can hear

ALPHARETTA, Ga.--()--Today, North Point Resources launched Kathleen Edelman’s latest book. Edelman knows that understanding kids is hard, no matter the age or the stage. On occasion, adults wish they could fix something about a child. If only kids came with an owners’ manual. Perhaps they do?

For more than 30 years, adults have marched into Kathleen Edelman’s office desperate to understand what’s happening with the children they lead. She has listened patiently as parents complain about their lazy, messy children. Teachers tell her about kids in their class who cannot sit still or pay attention. Coaches talk about players who have so much potential but do not want to put in the work.

“These are not small issues and, left unaddressed over time, have the potential to cause damage to the child’s self-image or their relationship with the adult leaders in their life,” Edelman states. “It’s heartbreaking.”

That tension is what led Edelman to compile so much of her life’s work and study of the four temperaments into ‘A Grown-Up’s Guide To Kids Wiring.’ Through adult and child assessments to identify temperaments, six online video sessions, and detailed explanations of how the temperaments can work together, Edelman offers leaders the opportunity to learn how to communicate with a child – based on that child’s wiring, not the adults.

Words have the power to shape lives and communities and schools and families. “And what sounds kind to you, may not sound kind to someone else,” said Edelman. “We give and receive communication through the context of our temperaments. We work throughout this book to help adults learn that a child’s wiring must inform communications to and expectations of them. When it comes to communicating with kids – from toddlers to teens – we want to help grown-ups figure out how to get their words right.”

Kathleen Edelman has devoted her life to helping people learn to speak kindly to one another. After all, kind words ARE cool. She’s spent more than 30 years counseling and coaching families and kids, as well as speaking nationwide, on the art of communication using the four temperaments as a foundation. Her first book, ‘I Said This, You Heard That’ was published by North Point Resources in 2018 & has sold over 73,000 copies & the correlating videos viewed more than 6.5 million times on Vimeo and YouTube. She has a master’s in Christian Counseling Psychology, a big heart for educators, and a surprising passion for fast cars and martial arts. She is married and has two grown children.
