SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Suffolk, one of the most innovative and successful privately-owned builders and real estate enterprises in the country, is announcing they have received a 2020 Ruby Award for Project of the Year in the Best New Construction category. Suffolk is being honored alongside affordable housing developer, Affirmed Housing, for Stella and Bluewater, two new supportive housing communities located in the Grantville neighborhood of San Diego.
San Diego Housing Federation’s Ruby Awards recognize excellence in affordable housing and community development in San Diego. The construction of Stella and Bluewater was led by Suffolk to help address a state-wide affordable housing shortage by providing housing for 160 of San Diego’s most vulnerable individuals, families and veterans.

Stella features a mix of 80 permanent supportive housing units for formerly homeless individuals and those with special needs. Stella offers on-site services to residents through its partners, Interfaith Community Services and the VA. Bluewater consists of 80 units for low-income households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. The units were assigned months in advance to people in need of supportive housing, and the developments were completed in August 2019.
