Yugabyte Announces Second Annual Distributed SQL Summit

Database Experts from VMware, Pinterest and Twitter to Present at the Virtual Event

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Yugabyte, the leader in open source distributed SQL databases, announced today that it will host the second annual Distributed SQL Summit on September 15-17, 2020 in a new, virtual format. This free event is dedicated to the topic of distributed SQL databases and features speakers from some of the biggest and most innovative names in cloud and database infrastructure, including VMware, Pinterest, Twitter, Hasura, Admiral, BRIKL, Kroger and Tetrate.

“Last year’s inaugural Summit was hugely valuable to the distributed SQL community as the group collectively determined distributed SQL has become the future of the operational database market,” said Bill Cook, CEO of Yugabyte. “Distributed SQL is powering a new generation of global, resilient and scalable applications for both open source developers and large-scale enterprises. We are excited to once again gather as a community and discuss expanded use cases for distributed SQL, offering a valuable environment where attendees can learn from other innovators in the space.”

Enterprises use distributed SQL databases to roll out geo-distributed applications with backends that can rapidly scale as business needs expand while remaining resilient to cloud failures. Expert speakers at the Distributed SQL Summit will dive deep into the use cases, best practices and next steps for implementation of distributed SQL deployments. Throughout the event, thought leaders, database builders and application developers will share how distributed SQL databases can be leveraged to easily build and massively scale applications and services in the cloud.

“Kubernetes has become the anchor of the cloud native ecosystem as developers and organizations look to build, deploy and manage more dynamically and reliably across the full diversity of environments they are faced with, from multiple clouds, on premises, or at the edge. But scheduling containers is only part of the story. To fully realize the promise of the cloud native world we need to have complementary technologies in the database space,” said Joe Beda, principal engineer at VMware and keynote speaker at the Distributed SQL Summit 2020. “Distributed SQL databases, running natively on Kubernetes, are a necessary complement for true distributed resiliency, scalability and elasticity. I’m personally very excited about the democratization of these technologies so they can be applied everywhere.”

In addition to hearing from industry leaders, attendees can also reserve their spot for live expert-driven workshops focused on:

  • Scaling microservices globally while maintaining sub-second latency and without sacrificing ACID guarantees
  • Migrating existing relational applications to a distributed SQL database using open source schema and data migration tools
  • Deploying and managing distributed SQL databases across multiple geographic regions or data centers distributed across the globe
  • Managing application complexity in a Kubernetes-native world
