FIRST UV-C DISINFECTING ROBOTS CONFIRMED TO NOT AFFECT FIT AND FILTRATION PERFORMANCE OF TESTED 3M N95 RESPIRATORS

UVDI-360 Robot Processing Evaluated by 3M’s Fit & Filtration Testing of Repeatedly Decontaminated Protective Gear

UltraViolet Devices, Inc. (UVDI) announced its UVDI-360 Room Sanitizer is the first 254nm UV-C disinfecting robot to be recognized by global Healthcare leader 3M as a decontamination method that did not damage or degrade its tested N95 respirators. 3M’s June Technical Bulletin “Decontamination Methods for 3M Filtering Facepiece Respirators, such as N95 Respirators, in the United States - Considerations” now includes the UVDI-360 Room Sanitizer for up to ten decontamination cycles.

As discussed in 3M’s Technical Bulletin, a decontamination method must address at least the following four key aspects: inactivate the target organism, such as the virus that causes COVID-19, not impact or damage the respirator’s filtration or fit, and be safe for the person wearing the respirator. This is in line with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance on Decontamination and Reuse of Filtering Facepiece Respirators.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, global supply constraints for effective, hospital-grade Personal Protective Equipment such as N95 Respirators have led CDC to provide guidance for safe reuse and decontamination of respirators as a crisis strategy for use in U.S. healthcare facilities. 3M has sought to communicate information related to the impact of decontamination methods on certain 3M filtering facepiece respirator (FFR) models when all other PPE conservation strategies have been exhausted.

Proven Coronavirus Inactivation on Small and Large Surfaces

Given coronavirus’ demonstrated persistence on surfaces for up to nine days1, enhanced environmental controls are key for patient and healthcare personnel safety. With our listing on 3M’s Technical Bulletin and independent, 3rd party lab testing showing the UVDI-360 Room Sanitizer reduces human coronavirus by 99.99% in only 5 minutes, UVDI-360 robots are proven to effectively inactivate this deadly pathogen on small and large surfaces,” says Dr. Ashish Mathur, Vice President of Innovation and Technology, UVDI, Inc.

We are grateful to CDC for their continued leadership in setting clear coronavirus standards to help protect healthcare personnel and patients globally,” added Peter Veloz, Chief Executive Officer, UVDI, Inc. “UVDI-360 Room Sanitizers are designed and built for both advanced efficacy and intuitive ease of use. Fighting this dangerous pathogen is challenging enough; healthcare heroes on the frontline deserve the best tools possible to do so.”
