NORWOOD, Mass.--()--GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA), a leading multi-disciplinary firm providing geotechnical, environmental, ecological, water, and construction management services, is pleased to announce that Senior Principal Ken Johnston has been elected President of the Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA).

Celebrating its 51st anniversary this year, the GBA serves geotechnical, environmental, and other geoprofessionals in the United States, Canada, and worldwide with resources, tools, and information-sharing opportunities to help them optimize performance, manage risk, and achieve business success. The non-profit association serves 260 member firms and is headquartered in Rockville, Md.

Johnston, who will also chair the GBA Board of Directors during his 2020-21 term as President, serves as GZA’s company-wide Chief Administrative Officer as well as District Office Manager of GZA’s Bedford, N.H. office.

“All of us at GZA are proud that Ken’s career-long commitment to advancing professionals in the geotechnical and environmental consulting field is being recognized by his colleagues,” said CEO Patrick Sheehan. “The GBA is dedicated to growing our profession. Ken’s experience, leadership, and business acumen will be a great asset to GBA as they continue their mission. Ken is the 50th President in this long-standing Association and the third to represent our firm as he follows in the footsteps of Bill Zoino (1981 – 1982) and Steve Trettel (1987 – 1988).”

“It is certainly going to be an interesting and challenging year for the GBA, as it is for all, given the COVID-19 virus. We will have to stay nimble and be prepared to adjust on the fly” said Johnston. “The GBA Board of Directors recently held a virtual strategic planning meeting and is currently finalizing an updated strategic plan to chart the course of the Association over the next ten months. Over my 38-year career, the decision to become part of this Association has been one of the best I have ever made from a professional point of view. The quality of the firms and their people and the networking opportunities are second to none.”

A resident of Salem, N.H., Johnston earned a Master’s degree in business administration from New Hampshire College and a Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in computer science from Norwich University. He has served as a Board Member of the GBA since 2015.
