Mavenir Elected to OpenRAN Policy Coalition Board

Mavenir is a founding member advancing adoption of open and interoperable solutions in the RAN

RICHARDSON, Texas--()--Mavenir, the industry's only end-to-end cloud-native Network Software Provider for 4G/5G networks, announced today that as a founding member of the OpenRAN Policy Coalition (ORPC), it has now joined the Board. Mavenir’s John Baker, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Mavenir, who also serves on the Board of 5G Americas, has been elected to serve on ORPC’S Board.

Chaired by AT&T, other Board members joining Mavenir are Altiostar, Cisco, DISH, Facebook, Intel, NTT, Qualcomm, Rakuten Mobile, Verizon, and Vodafone.

“As a proud founding member of the OpenRAN Policy Coalition, Mavenir is delighted to participate on the coalition’s Board,” said Pardeep Kohli, Mavenir President and CEO. “John Baker is a well-respected veteran of the mobile industry and an OpenRAN expert. His leadership on the coalition’s Board will help advance policies that promote adoption of this innovative technology.”

Mobile networks have been deployed using fully integrated cell sites, where the radios, hardware and software were provided by a single manufacturer as a closed system. The industry is now moving towards open Radio Access Network (RAN) standards and technical specifications that define open interfaces between the radios, hardware and software so that networks can be deployed using multiple vendors.

A recent joint white paper published by iGR, shows OpenRAN’s momentum among top MNOs, revealing that 22 MNOs have announced commercial deployments covering close to 1.2 billion subscribers, is available here.

Mavenir has been a pioneer of OpenRAN, including as part of the industry association, the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) and was one of the first members of the O-RAN Alliance.

Mavenir joins over 30 industry leaders including operators, vendors and suppliers, that are part of the OpenRAN Policy Coalition to advance the adoption of open and interoperable solutions in the RAN, to foster innovation and competition and expand the supply chain for advanced wireless technologies including 5G.

Founding members of the Open RAN Policy Coalition include Airspan, Altiostar, AT&T, AWS, Cisco, CommScope, Dell, DISH Network, Facebook, Fujitsu, Google, IBM, Intel, Juniper Networks, Mavenir, Microsoft, NEC Corporation, NewEdge Signal Solutions, NTT, Oracle, Parallel Wireless, Qualcomm, Rakuten Mobile, Samsung Electronics America, Telefónica, US Ignite, Verizon, VMWare, Vodafone, World Wide Technology, and XCOM-Labs.
