OneLegacy Observes Donate Life Month With First Virtual Run/Walk, City Proclamations, Flag-Raising Ceremonies, Meals of Gratitude to First Responders

A Series of Virtual Activities, Hospital Drop Offs and the First Virtual Donate Life Run/Walk Are Taking Place in April, While Observing the Government’s Stay-at-Home Recommendations

LOS ANGELES--()--With the goal of keeping the communities it serves safe and healthy during these uncertain times, OneLegacy is observing Donate Life Month in April with a series of virtual events to highlight the impact of organ, eye and tissue donation in saving and healing lives. These events are being hosted through the power of social media and online tools available to local communities.

OneLegacy is joining dozens of organizations, hospitals, cities and transplant centers across the country in this virtual effort to share the importance of donation in the U.S. while observing social distancing and encouraging local communities to engage via social media, phone calls and videos from their homes.

Additionally, OneLegacy will be hosting its first Virtual Donate Life Run/Walk event, which will take place on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram on Saturday, April 25.

Through these activities, OneLegacy expects to reach local hospitals, city councils and over 20 million people in Southern California via social media and virtual connection initiatives.

“We decided that going virtual this year is the best way to continue our partnership with local hospitals, transplant centers, community partners and city officials and to inspire our local communities to register as donors while staying safe at home,” said Tom Mone, CEO of OneLegacy. “We are grateful to our communities who are joining us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube to promote and celebrate Donate Life Month.”

This year’s Donate Life Month’s activities include:

  1. Virtual Donate Life Run/Walk: Celebrating its 18th year, the Donate Life Run/Walk is going virtual on Saturday, April 25, with thousands of participants joining in from their homes through various social media channels. Participants can register until April 25 by visiting donateliferunwalk.org.
  2. Meals of Gratitude: OneLegacy is making special visits to local hospitals to drop off “Meals of Gratitude” as a way to recognize the labor of medical professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. In partnership with local restaurants, including Lee’s Sandwiches and Raising Cain’s, OneLegacy staff is delivering breakfast and lunch to hospital partners as well as Donate Life branded items, including hand sanitizers.
  3. City Proclamations: Dozens of city and county proclamations are being issued to declare April as Donate Life Month, thanks to the help of over 260 OneLegacy Ambassadors and Embajadores who have reached out to their local elected officials to share their personal stories of donation and to invite the issuance of such proclamations.
  4. Flags Across America: In observance of Donate Life Month, OneLegacy is working with local organizations to fly the Donate Life flag during the month of April.
  5. Flags Across America: OneLegacy has also worked with local organizations to fly the Donate Life flag during the month of April, in observance of Donate Life Month.
