Publix Commits to $4 Billion in Food Donations to Alleviate Hunger

Company Celebrates $2 Billion Milestone, Pledges Additional $2 Billion by 2030

LAKELAND, Fla.--()--Since 2009, Publix has donated more than $2 billion in dairy, deli, meat, produce and fresh-baked goods to people in need. The company is now pledging an additional $2 billion in food donations over the next 10 years.

“You can’t always see hunger, but it is all around us,” said Publix CEO Todd Jones. “As a food retailer, our greatest opportunity to give back is by helping to alleviate food insecurity. That’s why for more than a decade we have worked to ensure millions of pounds of food have reached people in need in the communities we serve.”

Each day, through its food recovery program, Publix associates gather foods that are no longer salable and donate them to more than 100 Feeding America® member food banks and other nonprofit organizations. Publix’s program allows food banks to offer nourishing options to their clients.

“For over a decade, Publix has partnered with Feeding America and member food banks to help provide nourishing food to our neighbors in need. We are grateful for our long-standing partnership and for Publix’s commitment to fighting hunger,” said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America.

According to Feeding America, 9 million Americans in the Southeast don’t have enough food to eat. With hunger affecting every community Publix serves, it is at the center of the company’s charitable efforts. Publix has a nearly 90-year history of supporting the communities in which it operates, beginning with the efforts of its founder, George Jenkins.
