National Law Journal Names Scali Rasmussen’s Jeffrey Erdman a Trailblazer

LOS ANGELES--()--Jeffrey Erdman, a litigation partner at Scali Rasmussen, was named among National Law Journal’s list of Elite Boutique Trailblazers.

National Law Journal says it compiles the list to spotlight a handful of individuals “that are truly agents of change,” and features for each of the honorees, examples of their “pioneer spirit, trails blazed” and “future explorations.”

“We are very proud of Jeffrey’s accomplishments,” said Scali Law Firm founder Christian Scali. “His commitment to diversity is reflected in our Firm’s culture, and we are pleased that he is spearheading our Diversity Initiative.”

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Erdman says he “was concerned that the legal community would be unwelcoming to people like me, and I felt a kinship to other minorities. When I found my home at the first small firm, I came to realize you can find a place where you can be yourself. I dedicated myself to working within the profession to create a more diverse bar and judiciary, open more minds and educate people. We’ve tried to bring people into the legal profession and help those feeling on the fringe know that they could have a successful career in law.”

Erdman is a trial attorney with nearly 25 years of litigation experience practicing in both the state and federal courts of California. He has extensive courtroom and trial experience, both as plaintiff’s counsel and as defense counsel, and successfully argued cases before the California Court of Appeal. Erdman’s litigation experience spans many areas of business, including the insurance, manufacturing and service industries, as well as all variety of real estate disputes. He also has experience in the hospitality industry having worked with Westin Hotels and Resorts for more than ten years prior to attending law school.

Speaking of his firm’s diversity initiative that he co-chairs, Erdman told National Law Journal, “We are building three primary initiatives: for women, racial and ethnic minorities and LGBTQ+ individuals. This includes pro bono work as well as community engagement. The purpose is not only to do good in the community, but to make sure the firm is known as a place that values diversity and puts importance on community service.”

Erdman has provided pro bono legal services in a variety of matters impacting disenfranchised individuals, which he was recognized with the State Bar President’s Pro Bono Services Award. In 2018, Erdman joined the board of SAGE, a national organization that improves the lives of LGBT seniors and their caregivers through education, training and technical assistance. In 2017, he received the Charles R. English Award from the Los Angeles County Bar Association. In 2005, the Los Angeles LGBT Bar Association recognized Erdman with its Co-President’s Award for Leadership, and he received the Richard Taylor Leadership Award in 2000 by the Mountains AIDS Foundation.
