BRIDGEWATER, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Published ahead of the industry’s Open Networking Summit next month in Antwerp, Belgium, the latest release of international specifications to help build future software-led mobile networks includes a key contribution from iconectiv®, a company which provides information services that help service providers operate and manage their communications networks globally.
The specifications have been published by the LF Networking’s Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP) to help combine and drive industry progress toward delivering new services quickly and cost-efficiently using network functions virtualization (NFV) over software-defined mobile networks within an open source framework.
iconectiv joined the ONAP initiative last year to help partner in solving the challenges of smoothly onboarding the VNFs that are crucial to the way 5G and other advanced software-defined networks will be managed and commissioned.
As a result of focused and targeted development based on the ONAP specifications, iconectiv has delivered open source APIs for a new VNF information service. This Information as a Service plug-in can combine industry-specific and service provider-specific verification criteria to help streamline and speed up the compliance, validation and performance testing for VNF onboarding.
iconectiv showcased the solution in a proof-of-concept demonstration alongside leading service provider and network infrastructure vendors at The Linux Foundation’s 2019 Open Networking Summit (ONS) in North America earlier this year. The iconectiv approach to accelerating VNF onboarding has now been included in the latest approved ONAP specifications.
“From testing to deployment, our VNF information service is a simple, seamless and secure way for operators to launch new network services,” said iconectiv’s CEO Richard Jacowleff. “Our service helps different virtual network functions from multiple vendors speak the same language. In turn, this helps to speed and simplify virtual network deployments, which save operator costs, accelerate revenue generation, improve customer satisfaction and deliver a faster return on investment.”
ONAP’s members include more than 50 of the world’s largest service and technology providers within the mobile industry. Through its program of specification releases, ONAP aims to deliver an open, standards-driven network architecture and implementation platform that will facilitate the design, deployment and management of advanced networks based on a unified operating framework.
