The Place at Fifth + Broadway, Tennessee’s Tallest for Rent Residential Tower, Tops Out at 415 feet

Brookfield Properties and Skanska celebrate significant construction milestone for Nashville’s largest single mixed-use project; Within Fifth + Broadway, 386-unit apartment tower is connected to 256,000 square feet of retail and entertainment and 372,000 square feet of Class-A office space

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--()--Brookfield Properties, a premier international real estate company, and Skanska, one of the world’s leading construction and development companies, today celebrated the topping out of the residential tower of the transformative downtown Nashville mixed-use project Fifth + Broadway. The residential tower will be known as The Place at Fifth + Broadway, and at 34 stories and 415 feet high it is the tallest rising apartment tower in the state of Tennessee.

“After more than two years of construction on one of the largest mixed-use projects in the state’s history, we are thrilled to top out at our highest point of 415 feet,” said Burgin Dossett, vice president at Brookfield Properties. “A cast of thousands has worked tirelessly for years to reach this important milestone. We’d like to thank Skanska, our general contractor, and our many business and civic partners who have helped advance the project to where it is today. We look forward to 2020 when we can officially welcome residents and visitors along with world class corporate office users, restauranteurs, retailers, and the first of its kind National Museum of African American Music.”

The Place at Fifth + Broadway will tower over one of the most vibrant and exciting urban districts in the Southeast. The Place is directly connected to more than 200,000 square-feet of retail and entertainment, the 56,000 square-foot National Museum of African American Music, and the future headquarters of AllianceBernstein within Fifth + Broadway. The state-of-the-art residential tower sits immediately across the street from Bridgestone Arena (home of the NHL’s Nashville Predators and the 6th highest ticket selling arena in the U.S.), as well as the world-famous Ryman Auditorium and lower Broadway’s honky tonk row.

“It has been a great pleasure for Skanska to lead construction on the most visible and transformative redevelopment in one of America’s most exciting cities,” said Dennis Georgatos, Executive Vice President, General Manager at Skanska USA. “Located at the center of a dynamic destination that attracts more than 15 million visitors a year, there have been great logistical and technical challenges, all of which our team and partners have risen to the occasion to navigate and reach this topping out milestone."

Added Georgatos, “We’re proud to permanently change the Nashville skyline as we top out The Place at Fifth + Broadway – and we are equally excited for what is to come as we work to also complete the office tower, to be known as 501 Commerce, and the retail podium.”

Since the project’s groundbreaking in April of 2017, Skanska, as general contractor, has coordinated 1000s of construction industry professionals in expertly overseeing what is a highly complicated project and job site at one of the liveliest intersections in the United States. To reach the topping out milestone, the Skanska team performed more than 1.7 million work hours to date and used 90,000 YDS of concrete and 12.8 million pounds of rebar. Throughout this process, the team has recycled 7.6 million pounds of steel and 160,000 pounds of copper.

Notably, Skanska has made its Construction Management Building Blocks™ (CMBB™) training program, a ten-week training program for DBE firms, a priority at the Fifth + Broadway site. To date, 48 companies have successfully graduated from Skanksa’s CMBB in the Nashville area.

The now topped out apartment tower, The Place, will consist of 386 units ranging from 500 square foot studios to large penthouses at more than 2,000 square feet. Brookfield Properties says it will deliver a 17,000 square-foot amenity package that leads the market, highlighted by a pool overlooking Broadway, as well as high-end trainer driven work out facilities, a recording studio, and multiple lounge and co-working spaces.

The Place at Fifth + Broadway is expected to welcome residents early spring 2020 with pre-leasing to commence at the start of 2020. For more information visit, https://www.fifthandb.com/residential.
