Hacker Noon Releases Tech Publishing Platform 2.0

The publication that started as “how hackers start their afternoons,” has now built its own publishing software

EDWARDS, Colorado--()--Hacker Noon, an independent tech media destination, released its new publishing platform at HackerNoon.com. Anyone can now visit the site, start writing, and have their post reviewed and improved by a professional editor for distribution via Hacker Noon.

“We’ve moved from being just a publishing company to also becoming a software company,” said Hacker Noon CEO David Smooke. “This is the first version of our publishing platform. We are excited to open it up to more contributing writers. Hacker Noon is designed for technologists who wants to publish their stories across the interwebs.”

“Startups occasionally make the mistake of treating a launch as a finish line moment even though the name literally and appropriately implies the opposite,” said Hacker Noon Chief Product Officer Dane Lyons. “We're proud of what we've accomplished in our MVP but our best work is ahead of us, stay tuned.”

Functionalities of this new tech publishing platform are listed below:

For Writers

Hacker Noon elevates tech writing far and wide across the internet. With 25k+ stories in their library, the company has cultivated rare publishing and technology expertise. Tech infiltrates all aspects of life, so writers from all industries are welcome here. To the contributing writer, Hacker Noon pledges quality distribution, editorial expertise and community access. For Writers, the platform functions:

  • Story Editor: writing pad for technologists to collect their knowledge, thoughts, code, tweets, podcasts and more.
  • Writer Profile Page: place for Hacker Noon writers to share their stories, social media profiles, and a customizable Call-to-Action.
  • Writer Dashboard: where writers see their story drafts, published stories, reading history, and a writer/editor interactions activity feed.
  • Story Stats: where writers track the impact of their words. Stats are available for time reading, pageviews, words written, and click counts on the writer’s Call to Action.

“You are too good for Medium. Already planning my next story exclusively for Hacker Noon,” said writer Nebojsa Todorovic.

“I appreciate Hacker Noon and everything you guys are doing for the developer community,” said writer Alex Daro.

For Readers

Hacker Noon reflects the technology industry with unfettered stories and opinions written by real tech professionals. We believe we can get closer to the truth by elevating thousands of voices. Hacker Noon pledges no paywall, no pop up ads, and evergreen content. For readers, the platform provides:

  • Homepage: the best curation across the entire platform.
  • Tagged Pages: grouping relevant content together.
  • Story Page: a clean distraction free reading experience.
  • Commenting: treat your internet friends with respect.
  • Newsletters: primary Hacker Noon newsletter, blockchain newsletter, technology newsletter and software development newsletter.
  • Reading History: For logged in readers (readers do not have to log in to read), we offer a collection of everything they’ve read.

“I look forward to more amazing tech stories on Hacker Noon!” said reader John Demian.

“Hacker Noon was the only reason I used Medium,” said reader Raghav Sawhney.

For Sponsors

Hacker Noon partners with companies that build cool products and employ people worth publishing. Sponsors keep Hacker Noon free for readers forever. Hacker Noon runs on sponsorship promotions, never personalized ads. For Sponsors, the platform offers:

  • Sitewide Billboard. This top navigation placement goes on the homepage, curated tagged pages and every single story on the site.
  • Brand as Author. We understand that so much of content exists because quality companies allocate funds to the development of their stories. To accredit a brand as an author, there is a fee.

“Great ROI on the ads. Qualified audience,” said Joe Hanson, Pubnub Senior Content Strategist.

“The sponsorship with Hacker Noon had a significant effect on our reach and lead to a noticeable expansion of our network,” said Konstantin Trott, Midas Tech COO.

It’s also important to note that Hacker Noon has removed pop up advertisements from the Medium content management system and paywall. In Q1 2019, Hacker Noon concluded its $1.07M fundraise from 1200 people via equity crowdfunding. This expanded the team’s software development production and editorial resources, making it possible to release and scale this new publishing platform. Additionally, to serve writers and thank Medium for the time spent working together, Hacker Noon’s past library will be duplicated (moving stories from HackerNoon.com/Story-Title to Medium.com/Hackernoon/Story-Title) so that the stories, stats and associations can remain available to the Medium community.

A special shout-out to the team that made this happen: Fullstack Developer Austin Pocus, Chief Operating Officer Linh Dao Smooke, Blockchain Editor & Business Development Executive Utsav Jaiswal, Technology Staff Editor Natasha Nel, Product Designer Faith Walker, Software Development Editor Storm Farrell, Social Media Manager @CaterNoon, Podcast Producer Derek Bernard, Brand Executive Kien Dao, Advisor and Bitcoin Editor @PirateBeachbum, & Assistants Hang Ngo, Daria Kulish, Taner Seyt, and our 1200+ shareholders.
