Citizens Against Government Waste Applauds Senate GOP's Permanent Earmark Ban

WASHINGTON--()--Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) President Tom Schatz released the following statement applauding the Senate Republican Conference for voting to adopt a permanent ban on pork-barrel earmarks. CAGW has supported a permanent ban since the temporary moratorium was imposed in 2011.

The statement reads:

“Earmarking is one of the most wasteful and corrupt practices in congressional history, and Senate Republicans should be congratulated for voting to ban it permanently. Taxpayers should especially thank Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) for introducing and pushing the measure. Now it is time for the House of Representatives to follow suit and demonstrate its commitment to ending this practice that is the epitome of the Washington swamp.”

Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
