GoFundMe Announces Extension of GoFundMe Heroes Program with First Annual Live Event

Public invited to nominate people making differences in their communities for a chance to be honored at fall event

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Today, GoFundMe, the world’s largest social fundraising platform, announced an expansion to its GoFundMe Heroes program that celebrates the good in the world and amplifies those who are making differences in their respective communities. The GoFundMe Heroes program will now include an opportunity for the public to nominate Heroes in their local communities for a chance to be honored at the GoFundMe Heroes Celebration later this year.

GoFundMe is encouraging those inspired by people using the platform and creating positive change to nominate them for a chance to be selected as one of the five Heroes celebrated at the live event.

GoFundMe is partnering with GoFundMe.org to host the GoFundMe Heroes Celebration in San Francisco. The five selected Heroes will be announced and honored at the event. The event will bring together people making a difference and showcase some of the most uplifting stories on GoFundMe to inspire the audience to make a difference.

Engaging the GoFundMe community to recognize and nominate inspiring Heroes brings the storytelling we see on the platform to another level,” said Rob Solomon, GoFundMe CEO. “Everyday, we are moved by those who are truly making a difference in their communities, so we want to create an incredibly impactful and inspiring event to honor these Heroes and celebrate the good in humanity.”

The five selected Heroes will have the opportunity to spread awareness for their causes in front of a live audience. Each honoree will receive a two-night trip to San Francisco, a celebration in their honor and support to continue their mission through GoFundMe.

GoFundMe is encouraging people to nominate those making differences in their communities. A committee will be evaluating the nominations based on criteria including but not limited to:

  • Nominee has an active GoFundMe campaign helping those in need
  • Campaign organizer has plans to continue their mission on an ongoing basis
  • Campaign organizer lives in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia

The nomination period begins on May 14, 2019 and ends on June 14, 2019.
