SAIC’S Karen Wheeler Receives HR Impact Award by Washington Business Journal

Wheeler named ‘a top human resources leader’ and included in WBJ’s Best Places to Work awards program

RESTON, Va.--()--Science Applications International Corp.’s (NYSE: SAIC) Chief Human Resources Officer Karen Wheeler received the Human Resources Impact Award by Washington Business Journal and will be honored at the publication’s annual Best Places to Work awards event on May 16.

The HR Impact Award is presented to the Washington, D.C.-area’s top HR leaders who have made a direct and tangible impact on their company’s workplaces and employees in 2018. Wheeler is one of three honorees selected by a panel including Washington Business Journal staff.

“Congratulations to Karen on this impressive recognition, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving. During her 23-year career with SAIC, Karen has consistently demonstrated her visionary leadership and business acumen in various key roles,” said SAIC CEO Tony Moraco. “Under her guidance, we have increased value to our workforce and business organizations, and delivered tangible results to drive growth. Karen continues to transform human resources so that SAIC is the career destination for the best talent.”

During her tenure with SAIC, Wheeler has driven significant positive change by leading the company’s HR integration efforts following the acquisition of Engility; improving and streamlining the employee experience; advocating for enhanced benefits; and revamping the talent recruitment, retention, and redeployment processes.

Under Wheeler’s leadership, SAIC created an inclusion and diversity network of Business Resource Groups (BRGs) that provide opportunities for networking, mentoring, leadership development, and knowledge sharing. Although each BRG has a specific focus, all employees are invited to participate.

Wheeler’s work extends beyond SAIC. She serves the City of Fairfax as a Planning Commissioner and as a representative to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. She also volunteered at Food for Thought, an organization that works with Elementary Schools to provide food for disadvantaged families. She is SAIC’s executive sponsor for USO-Metro and serves as an Executive Board member with a concentration in HR and procurement areas for the organization.
