STATS Launches AutoSTATS, the First Patented AI-Powered Player-Tracking Technology, for College Basketball

AutoSTATS Captures Tracking Data via Broadcast Video, Creating the First Scalable, Cost-Effective Option for Tracking in the NCAA

CHICAGO--()--STATS, the revolutionary leader in sports AI, today announced the official launch of AutoSTATS for college basketball.

AutoSTATS is the first artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision technology to deliver comprehensive player-tracking data using X/Y coordinates through television broadcast. With this revolutionary method, AutoSTATS eliminates the need for in-venue hardware, creating the opportunity for deep player analysis of any game, anywhere. STATS has begun offering the technology to teams, conferences, media, broadcast outlets and other companies covering college basketball.

“Until AutoSTATS, the only way to capture comprehensive player-tracking data was through an optical, in-venue hardware system,” said Steve Xeller, Chief Revenue Officer at STATS. “While prominent in the NBA for many years, optical tracking at the college level has never taken off due to the cost and number of games played outside teams’ home arenas. With AutoSTATS, we have created a cost-effective, scalable solution that is not limited to one arena, giving college teams easy access to full-season player tracking data. Powered through an AI-based system, it is the only non-subjective solution for team analysis and game preparation at the collegiate level.”

AutoSTATS began collecting tracking data during the 2018-19 season for select college basketball games played where optical tracking solutions were limited. As a result, the Orlando Magic recently signed an exclusive deal with STATS, making the Magic the only NBA team able to access AutoSTATS data for college scouting purposes.

This week, STATS is debuting the technology for college coaches, analysts and athletic directors at the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Convention in Minneapolis, Minn. For more information on the technology, visit: https://www.stats.com/auto-stats/.
