North America Trailer Manufacturing Industry Report 2019 - 2018 Data & Outlook Forecasts 2019-2023 - ResearchAndMarkets.com

DUBLIN--()--The "Trailer Manufacturing Industry in North America. 2018 Data, 2019-2023 Outlook" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

This project is a rigorous investigation of the manufacture of 16 key types of trailers in the United States, Canada and Mexico, from commodity truck trailers to trailers for specialized applications. The report gives market size and competitor shares in units and dollars for each trailer type and sub-type.

Over 380,000 trailers were manufactured by approximately 250 companies in the USMCA (ex-NAFTA) market in 2018, for a combined annual output of $12.8 billion. While a significant part of the industry is accounted for by the top 25 companies, the rest of the industry is fragmented across several small, regional fabricators catering to regional and local demand. Of special note is the inclusion of Mexican manufacturers, with their significant share and growing influence in the North American market. Mexican manufacturers are producing trailers not only for domestic consumption but increasingly for exports into the United States and Latin American markets.

Trailer sales are forecast to continue to grow in 2019, albeit at rates lower than the torrid growth in 2018 and 2017. Several trailer manufacturers, especially van trailer manufacturers, are booked out until the third quarter of 2019. While all segments are expected to clock growth in 2019, platform trailers, tanker trailers and dry van trailers will be the better performing products. Refrigerated vans are beginning to see a cooling-off in the pace of new orders.

Specialized and niche trailer segments, such as belt trailers, hopper grain trailers and livestock trailers, move with trends in agricultural production and are expected to display low single-digit growth rates in 2019.

The dump trailer segment is highly fragmented with more than 100 manufacturers. Several dump trailer manufacturers also fabricate other types of trailers, such as platform, dry van or lowbed trailers. These product types are expected to grow at low single digit rates in the next two years, primarily driven by trends in the construction industry.

On the supply chain side, capacity constraints at the component manufacturer level are impacting delivery schedules and lead times. The import tariff regime imposed since 2017, particularly on steel and aluminum, is beginning to impact demand adversely as manufacturers pay additional tariffs for material imported from China.
