NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Learning a language is about making mistakes and using it in real-world situations - and this is what Berges Institute is set to bring online for the first time in the United States.
The Spanish language school, which comprises campuses in New York City and Chicago, is set to expand nationally and digitally thanks to the launch of its interactive online group classes.
The online launch is the first of its kind in the U.S. and comes as Spanish continues to grow in prominence and influence. According to a study published by Instituto Cervantes, there are 41 million native Spanish-speakers in the U.S. and a further 11.6 million who are bilingual.
This puts the U.S. ahead of Colombia and Spain in terms of Spanish-speakers, and second only to Mexico. Experts estimate the U.S. will count 138 million Spanish speakers by 2050, making it the biggest Spanish-speaking nation on Earth with Spanish expected to be the mother tongue of almost one-third of citizens.
Berges Institute founder Dan Berges said online capabilities will allow anyone from coast to coast to brush up on their Spanish skills in an exciting use of technology.
“Students will be able to see each other and interact like a regular class but all from the comfort of their own home, and that is the really exciting part,” he said. “The online classes will enable our students to learn in a more relaxed setting without compromising on the quality of education. We are very excited to bring the same experience as in person to online.”
All levels will be available in the online course and mirror the curriculum offered in the physical classrooms. The 90-minute classes will run every week for 10 weeks and follow the school’s Graf Method: a logic-based system which takes advantage of the speaking skills students already have in their native language to teach Spanish.
“Technology is allowing us to break barriers and overcome distance to teach people new skills,” Berges added.
