CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland (CEOGC) has been recognized with the Bright Spot Award by the National Head Start Association (NHSA) for continuously being an example of high-quality service to the community in Cuyahoga County.
CEOGC joins nine other Head Start programs across the country receiving recognition from the NHSA as a part of their multi-year narrative project, “Standing Strong, Staying United: Strengthening Every Head Start Community.” The project’s purpose is to further advocate for policy changes that enable CEOGC to continue to support at-risk children and families, helping them to succeed.
As an award recipient, CEOGC is granted a monetary gift of $1,500 and will act as an ambassador for the NHSA, highlighting best practices in the industry by hosting a community forum on March 26, 2019. The event will feature a documentary film on early education titled, “Early Childhood is NO SMALL MATTER.” The film is designed to kick-start public conversation on the importance of early care and education; taking viewers on a journey inside the brains of young children. A representative of CEOGC will also be invited to attend the Annual Head Start Conference in San Antonio next spring to share outcomes of the forum with peer agencies.
“The Bright Spot Award is such a great honor in which to participate,” said Dr. Thea Wilson, Vice President of Children & Families at CEOGC. “It gives us an avenue to give back to the community in regards to information about early childhood education. We are planning the forum for early in the spring of 2019.”
The Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland is a nonprofit organization and the Community Action Agency for Cuyahoga County that operates programs and services dedicated to transforming the lives of residents. The Council delivers education, personal and professional development programs and support services to residents of Cuyahoga County. Programs include Early Head Start (birth to three) Head Start (three – five years of age); individual assessments for classes and coaching sessions on topics including parenting, anger management and life skills; job readiness, customer service training and job placement.
