City of La Habra and Homebuilder City Ventures Honored for Public/Private Partnership on Expanded Civic Center

The public/private efforts included the relocation of the former La Habra City Hall to a new renovated office building; expansion of the La Habra Community Center; renovation of the La Habra Police Station and Veterans Memorial Hall; relocation of the city’s post office; new parking and the creation of Luna by City Ventures, a collection of 71 solar, all electric new homes.

LA HABRA, Calif.--()--The City of La Habra and City Ventures, one of California’s leading eco-friendly homebuilders, have earned two awards recognizing their public/private partnership efforts to expand the city’s civic center and bring a neighborhood of solar, all-electric new homes to its central core. The honors were recently presented by the Orange County Business Council (OCBC) and the Association of California Cities-Orange County (ACC-OC).

The award from the OCBC, “Homes and a New Hall—Public and Private Investment in La Habra’s Central Core” was in its Real Estate Redevelopment and Reuse category. The ACC-OC presented La Habra and City Ventures with their hallmark “Golden Hub of Innovation” award.

The City of La Habra partnered with City Ventures on the relocation of the former La Habra City Hall to a new renovated office building; the expansion of the La Habra Community Center; the renovation of the La Habra Police Station and Veterans Memorial Hall; the relocation of the post office; new parking and the creation of Luna, a collection of 71 eco-friendly new homes.

Luna is a new home neighborhood featuring a mix of attached townhomes and single-family detached homes. The detached homes offer up to 2,171 square feet and are priced from the low $600,000 while the 63 attached townhomes are available in up to 2,115 square feet and are priced from the high $400,000s.

With advanced solar technology that powers the entire home to reduce electricity and eliminate gas bills all together, Luna is the first-of-its-kind sustainable community in La Habra and exceeds national energy-efficiency standards. The homes also promote healthy in-home living through advanced clean airflow systems and use of non-toxic materials.

“To be recognized with these two prestigious awards is a validation of what we see as a model for public/private development efforts,” said Phil Kerr, Chief Executive Officer of City Ventures Homebuilding. “We are extremely proud of our partnership with the City of La Habra and are thrilled to be a part of the revitalization of its vital central core.”

Since the company was formed in 2009, City Ventures has been a part of successful partnerships with several municipalities in Southern California. It currently has active public/private projects in Long Beach and Pico Rivera and previously successfully completed new-home communities in partnership with Alhambra, Azusa, Bellflower, Buena Park, Carson, Montebello, Santa Ana and Santa Barbara.

City Ventures has also recently formed a new partnership with the City of Commerce to revitalize its Civic Center and build a collection of solar, all-electric new residences.

“We are always looking for additional opportunities to partner with cities to transform underutilized and outdated public properties into vibrant new neighborhoods,” said Ryan Aeh, Vice President of Land Acquisition for City Ventures. “It’s a business approach that we think needs constant attention to bring much needed housing to the region.”
