CareerBliss evaluated thousands of independent company reviews by actual employees, analyzing the key factors that impact workplace happiness. Ranking as the CareerBliss happiest city to work is San Francisco, Calif., followed by Chicago, Ill., Atlanta, Ga., and Phoenix, Ariz. Unfortunately, Denver, Colo. and Fort Worth, Texas rank as the top two unhappiest cities to work.
“Understanding what makes employees happy and where employees are happiest is important key for employers as they expand into new regions and job seekers who are willing to relocate,” says Heidi Golledge, Chief Happiness Officer, CEO and Co-Founder of CareerBliss.

CareerBliss data evaluates key factors that affect work happiness, including relationships with bosses and co-workers, work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks, and job control over daily work.
CareerBliss respondents are asked not only to rate their employer on key factors that impact happiness, but also on how much they value that factor. In addition to key factors, CareerBliss evaluates which cities in the United States have the highest number of happy reviews. Employment, job opportunities, and salaries also impact the CareerBliss Happiest and Unhappiest Cities to Work lists. “In the past, we noticed that cities with good weather were typically ranked higher on our list. We have noticed this year that folks are valuing more than sunshine and nice temperatures as they rate their happiness. Even Chicago’s recent freezing temps could not knock them out of the top spot.” Heidi Golledge mentioned.
