CROSSFIRE’s Biggest Event CFS 2018 Ends with Success

TORONTO--()--Smilegate Entertainment has officially announced the end of this year’s most prestigious esports event CFS (CROSSFIRE STARS) 2018 on December 9th, 2018. This year was the first time Smilegate held a 16-team CROSSFIRE tournament. The event culminated in Nanjing, China, with all tournaments receiving with high praise from fans onsite and abroad.

For this year’s tournament, Smilegate changed the CROSSFIRE tournament by moving from a 12 team to a 16 team structure. Every region currently running a pro league was given an extra slot which encouraged more professional players to participate in the CFS, and players from new regions such as Egypt were given an opportunity to participate.

For the first time in CFS history, the finals match for CFS 2018: CROSSFIRE tournament did not include any Chinese team. Brazil’s Black Dragons (BD) took the championship title, which had always been taken by China in the previous tournaments. BD overthrew Russia’s legendary team ruLegends by 3:0, taking home the lion’s share of $500,000. Black Dragons has also experience beating Chinese powerhouse Super Valiant Gaming during the CFS INVITATIONAL VIETNAM 2017 final, making them the first team to ever defeat a Chinese team and take the champion title.

Black Dragon’s success will surely be a big stimulus for other international teams; not only for regions like the Philippines and Vietnam, which have a professional league, but also to the Chinese teams who lost their title as defending champion during this year’s tournament. “It is an immense glory to have taken the CFS championship and we have worked so hard to reach our dreams,” said Black Dragons. “We will do our best to keep this momentum and do our best in the tournaments ahead.”

This year’s tournament has become a stepping stone for the further development of the CFS brand. “We are glad to see that the changed made to this year’s CFS have been well received” said Brady Yeo, Head of CROSSFIRE esports of Smilegate Entertainment. “I would like to applaud the growth of our international players and sincerely thank our fans for all the love and support that they have shown to CFS. We will do our best to continue to deliver a unique experience for all of our users around the world.”
