LOS ANGELES--()--The USC Rossier School of Education today announced that an Honorary Award has been given to CTBC Bank USA in recognition of the bank’s financial support of the USC College Advising Corps (USC CAC).

The USC CAC program recruits and trains recent college graduates, many of them first-generation college goers, and places them in underserved high schools to assist students with their college searches, applications and financial aid. Since 2014, CTBC Bank through USC CAC has donated $400,000 that has directly aided more than 16,000 students in Los Angeles-area underserved high schools.

In 2017-18 the USC CAC had 48 college advisors working in 41 Los Angeles-area high schools. Their efforts resulted in:

  • 32,730 college applications by 10,915 students
  • 9,295 students’ college acceptances
  • 7,314 students applying for financial aid
  • $39.7 million in financial aid awarded

“CTBC Bank’s commitment of advisory support and funding have made an enormous difference in the higher education, jobs and life outcomes for thousands of underserved students,” said Karen Symms Gallagher, Emery Stoops and Joyce King Stoops Dean of the USC Rossier School of Education. “CTBC recognizes the effectiveness of the program and has enabled us to provide it to more schools and to more students.”

“On behalf of all our CTBC Bank USA team members, we are honored and proud that the USC CAC program has resulted in such an important impact on the community and on students who are so deserving of a great future,” said Morris Li, Chairman of CTBC Bank USA. “Community support has always been a vital part of CTBC’s culture and USC’s program is an important investment to continue that tradition.”

In total, USC CAC serves nine school districts and 16,800 seniors in Los Angeles area high schools. Of the seniors, 83% are from underrepresented populations and 84% are from low-income families.
